Washington GM: Team feels 'comfortable' with QBs on roster

Washington Football Team general manager Martin Mayhew is content with his group of quarterbacks at the moment.

"We do feel very confident and comfortable with the quarterbacks on our roster now," Mayhew said Friday, according to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post.

However, Mayhew added that searching for a signal-caller is a continuous process.

"There aren't 32 great quarterbacks in the NFL right now," Mayhew said, according to NFL Network's Andrew Siciliano. "If you don't have one as a GM, you're always looking for that. I don't think that process ever stops."

Washington has reshaped its quarterback room, moving on from Alex Smith and Dwayne Haskins. The franchise signed veteran passer Ryan Fitzpatrick and retained Taylor Heinicke and Kyle Allen. Heinicke has started just one game over his career, while neither Fitzpatrick (59-86-1) nor Allen (7-10) holds a winning record over their NFL tenure.

Washington could reinforce the position through the draft. The club is willing to move up if the right quarterback falls in the draft, according to ESPN's John Keim.

Mayhew mentioned during Friday's press conference that experience is a big plus when evaluating college quarterbacks.

"I think, for me, especially evaluating quarterbacks, time spent on the job is definitely a positive. Anytime you see guys with limited time on the job, that is a concern for me with the quarterback position, and there certainly are more of those guys this year," the general managed said.

Washington owns the 19th pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
