The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday the establishment of a scholarship in honor of linebacker Edwin Jackson, who was hit and killed in a traffic accident in Indianapolis on Feb. 4.

"This scholarship will honor Edwin's memory and his determination, work ethic, and character," said Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay, who pledged a gift of $25,000 to fund the Edwin Jackson Memorial Scholarship. "My family and the entire Colts organization are proud to have been associated with Edwin, and we are honored to help continue his legacy in the future."

The scholarship will be a separate fund within the Indianapolis Colts Foundation and will be awarded annually to a qualified student applicant. The team will work with Jackson's family to determine the guidelines.

Several members of the Colts organization attended a memorial service for Jackson in Atlanta on Monday.
