Report: Mutual interest between Blount, Giants

In light of Adrian Peterson signing with the New Orleans Saints on Monday comes a report that another free-agent running back, LeGarrette Blount, is closing in on a deal with the New York Giants.

There is mutual interest between the two sides, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, and a deal could reportedly be reached before the NFL draft, which kicks off Thursday.

Blount has sat on the open market with little fanfare for much of the offseason. He reportedly had an offer on the table from the Patriots but chose not to re-up with the defending champions.

Blount, a veteran of eight seasons, had the best year of his career in 2016, rushing for a personal-best 1,161 yards and leading the league with 18 touchdowns. Despite the impressive touchdown tally, Blount was used as part of a collection of backs that also featured Dion Lewis and James White.

The Patriots have expanded their rushing roster this offseason, poaching Mike Gillislee from the Buffalo Bills on Monday and adding Rex Burkhead.

The Giants could use Blount's production, as they owned the league's fourth-worst rushing game last season. However, the draft is also loaded with talented running backs.
