Game officials admitted they missed an offensive facemask call on Seattle Seahawks wideout Paul Richardson's touchdown, Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell told NBC's Michelle Tafoya.
Richardson's one-handed touchdown grab Saturday was immediately hailed as a candidate for catch of the year. Officials called defensive pass interference on the play, but the Seahawks obviously declined the penalty and took the six points.
Perhaps they shouldn't have been able to. Replays showed Richardson grabbed and twisted the facemask of Lions defensive back Tavon Wilson as he made the catch. Had it been called, the offsetting penalties would have forced the down to be re-played.
