The Atlanta Falcons have released veteran safety Dashon Goldson, the team announced Wednesday.
Goldson was signed toward the end of the preseason as a depth addition to the secondary in the injury absence of first-round rookie Keanu Neal.
With Neal now back in the lineup and contributing at a high level, Goldson found himself pushed even further down the depth chart, and eventually became the odd man out when the Falcons needed to add a player elsewhere.
The two-time Pro Bowler now becomes an unrestricted free agent and can sign with another team immediately.
Atlanta signed defensive lineman Cliff Matthews from the practice squad in a corresponding roster move.
