Grealish to miss England fixtures as FIFA delays national clearance

Jack Grealish's debut with the English national team has been delayed as FIFA investigates the Football Association's request to change the Aston Villa player's national allegiance, according to Sky Sports.

The 20-year-old, born in Birmingham, chose to represent England in September even though he began his international career with various youth squads from the Republic of Ireland.

His absence from friendlies against Spain and France means Grealish will have to wait until the New Year.

FIFA confirmed the necessary documents from the FA had been received, but clearance has yet to be granted

"We can confirm having been contacted by the Football Association with a request for change of association of the player Jack Grealish," a FIFA spokesperson said.

"The matter is pending and being investigated by our services and as a result, we are not in a position to comment on it any further nor to give an estimation as to the relevant time line."

Grealish was invited to train with his new international teammates, but was blocked from doing so by former Aston Villa coach Tim Sherwood in order to give the midfielder time to recover from an ankle injury.
