Jermaine Jones' future shrouded in mystery after Instagram post
With his contract expiring in December, New England Revolution midfielder Jermaine Jones appears poised to leave the MLS side, if an appreciative post on his Instagram page is any indication.
Hoping to extend his stay at the club, the 54-time capped international pursued a lucrative contract, and Friday's admission would seem to illustrate that he and the club could not find common ground.
Jones' final moment in a Revs kit was steeped in controversy, as the former Schalke player was red-carded during a playoff loss to DC United on Wednesday disputing a missed call by referee Mark Geiger.
It was hard to blame the Stuttgart-born defensive midfielder for his reaction, as Geiger awarded DC a penalty for a similar infraction on Scott Caldwell 10 minutes earlier.
"People who know me, they know that I'm not a good loser," Jones said. "In that moment I was really upset. I think if you give Scott's penalty, you have to give this penalty, too."
Regardless of the circumstances surrounding his dismissal, Revs supporters will miss the man that appeared in 28 matches for the club since a transfer from Besiktas in 2014.
