Purdue has plans for major renovation to Ross-Ade Stadium, but even before those improvements are made, the university already decided to alter the stadium prior to next season.

Athletic director Morgan Burke announced Saturday that the upper bleacher section in the south end zone of the stadium will be removed, eliminating approximately 6,100 seats.

Burke said the removal of the bleachers will be done to ensure the safety of fans as well as avoid maintenance costs that would have been required to keep the section of the bleachers serviceable.

The area will be repurposed as part of the expanded renovation plans and a formal announcement on how the space will be used will be made during the 2014 season.

Fans that already purchased tickets in that section will be able to move to the lower bleachers or section 129 at no extra charge,
