Report: Marlins, Twins discussed Pablo Lopez trade
The Minnesota Twins are on the hunt for starting pitching and reached out to the Miami Marlins about right-hander Pablo Lopez, the New York Post's Jon Heyman reports.
American League batting champion Luis Arraez and outfielder Max Kepler were reportedly mentioned during discussions, but the Twins weren't interested in parting with Arraez.
Lopez has pitched well in three consecutive seasons for the Marlins, posting a sub-4.00 ERA and FIP in each of those years.
Lopez's stats from 2020-22:
YEAR | IP | ERA | FIP | WHIP |
---|---|---|---|---|
2020 | 57.1 | 3.61 | 3.09 | 1.19 |
2021 | 102.2 | 3.07 | 3.29 | 1.12 |
2022 | 180 | 3.75 | 3.71 | 1.17 |
Miami, which employs National League Cy Young winner Sandy Alcantara and the recently signed Johnny Cueto, has reportedly made Lopez, Jesus Luzardo, Trevor Rogers, and Edward Cabrera available in an effort to improve its offense.
The Marlins finished 14th in batting average and on-base percentage, as well as last in runs scored among NL teams last season.
