Report: Yankees discussing Benintendi, considering Gallo trade
The New York Yankees are interested in making some changes to their roster ahead of the Aug. 2 trade deadline and have been in discussions with the Kansas City Royals about outfielder Andrew Benintendi, sources told the New York Post's Jon Heyman and Dan Martin.
The Yankees are also discussing trading Joey Gallo, according to Heyman's and Martin's sources.
Kansas City's asking price for Benintendi, a pending free agent, is believed to be one good prospect, which the Yankees think is too high of a price tag, according to Heyman and Martin.
Benintendi is in the midst of a strong campaign, authoring a .317/.387/.402 slash line with 97 hits and 34 RBIs. He's also familiar with the American League East after spending the first five years of his career with the Boston Red Sox.
Meanwhile, Gallo continues to struggle in the Big Apple, posting a .163/.295/.372 line with 180 strikeouts in 128 games since the Yankees acquired him from the Texas Rangers in July 2021.
