Spencer Rattler transferring to South Carolina
Former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler is transferring to South Carolina, he announced Monday.
Rattler will be reunited with Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer. Beamer spent 2018-20 on the Oklahoma staff as an assistant head coach.
The former Oklahoma quarterback entered the portal in November after a disappointing 2021 campaign. He was considered a potential Heisman candidate prior to the season but was ultimately benched for Caleb Williams.
Williams kept hold of the job throughout the season. Rattler made a brief appearance in a loss to Baylor but Williams re-entered the game after he struggled to move the ball.
Rattler's 2021 campaign finished with 11 touchdowns against five interceptions across nine games. His performance was a big drop from his 2020 campaign, which saw him throw 28 touchdowns to seven interceptions.
Meanwhile, South Carolina improved mightily in Beamer's first year as head coach in 2021, ending the regular season with a 6-6 record.
