The San Diego Padres are interested in acquiring Cincinnati Reds right-hander Sonny Gray, sources told Robert Murray of FanSided.

Rival executives believe Gray could replace the injured Mike Clevinger, according to Murray. Clevinger is out for the 2021 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in mid-November.

Gray, who's a two-time All-Star, made headlines during the winter meetings when several teams reportedly showed interest in trading for him.

Reds general manager Nick Krall said at the time the club wasn't planning to blow up its roster, despite dealing closer Raisel Iglesias to the Los Angeles Angels.

Gray has posted a 3.07 ERA with a 10.8 K/9 in two seasons with Cincinnati. The 31-year-old is owed $20.2 million over the next two campaigns after signing a three-year contract in January 2019.
