New York Yankees left-hander Aroldis Chapman has been suspended three games for throwing near the head of Tampa Bay Rays utility player Mike Brosseau on Tuesday, Major League Baseball announced Wednesday.

Rays manager Kevin Cash and Yankees manager Aaron Boone received one-game suspensions, along with undisclosed fines.

"I don't think I should be sitting out tonight, nor Chappy," Boone told reporters, according to James Wagner of The New York Times. "But I do respect the process."

Cash and Boone will serve their bans Wednesday when the teams finish up their series at Yankee Stadium. Chapman called his three-game suspension "a little harsh" and is appealing, according to Lindsey Adler of The Athletic. As a result, he'll be available to pitch Wednesday.

Chapman threw a 101-mph fastball over Brosseau's head in the ninth inning of Tuesday's game. Moments later, after Brosseau struck out to give the Yankees a win, the two benches cleared, though no punches were thrown. Cash was irate postgame and lashed out at the Yankees, calling it "poor judgment (and) poor coaching" on their end.

"To be clear, I had no intention of hitting anyone," Chapman said Wednesday, per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com.

Boone appeared to be taking Cash's rant in stride by the time he met with reporters to discuss his suspension Wednesday.

"Tonight will give me the time to reflect a little bit and maybe tighten up my coaching techniques," Boone quipped, according to Adler.

Brosseau, meanwhile, felt that the three-game ban handed to Chapman "is fair under the circumstances," according to Juan Toribio of MLB.com.

Wednesday is the final regular-season meeting between the Yankees and Rays this year.
