Simpson withdraws from Travelers after family member contracts COVID-19

Webb Simpson withdrew from the Travelers Championship on Wednesday after a family member tested positive for COVID-19, he told TSN's Bob Weeks.

"While my tests this week were negative, I feel like it is my responsibility to take care of my family and protect my peers in the field by withdrawing from the Travelers Championship," he said.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan confirmed three positive tests during his press conference Wednesday: Cameron Champ, Ken Comboy (Graeme McDowell's caddie), and Ricky Elliott (Brooks Koepka's caddie).

Koepka and McDowell have both already withdrawn from the Travelers Championship.

Chase Koepka, Brooks' brother, has also withdrawn from the tournament due to cautionary measures, Monahan said. Chase was a Monday qualifier for the event.

Simpson, the No. 5 player in the world, was coming off a victory at last week's RBC Heritage.
