Pedro is reluctant to sign a short-term deal to complete Chelsea's campaign after agreeing to join Roma on a free transfer, according to The Athletic's Simon Johnson.

Chelsea have until next Tuesday to sign Pedro to an interim contract and ensure the Spaniard's participation in the final stretch.

His current contract at Stamford Bridge expires on June 30, and the 32-year-old is reportedly troubled by the risk of suffering an injury after signing a two-year deal with the Serie A side.

As part of the Premier League's return, teams had until June 23 to secure interim agreements with soon-to-be free agents after the three-month hiatus shifted the transfer calendar.

Chelsea hope to finalize short-term deals with both Pedro and attacking mate Willian before the veterans leave the club this summer.

The Blues are aiming to refresh the frontline following the acquisition of Hakim Ziyech from Ajax in February.

Ziyech is not eligible to play for Chelsea until the 2020-21 campaign kicks off, and the Moroccan international could be joined by reported targets Timo Werner and Kai Havertz.

Chelsea currently cling to fourth place in the Premier League ahead of Sunday's return to play at Aston Villa.

Frank Lampard's charges are also set to contest an FA Cup quarterfinal with Leicester City on June 28 and face an uphill climb against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Aug. 7 after losing the last-16 first-leg 3-0 at Stamford Bridge.
