The Los Angeles Lakers announced that two unidentified players have tested positive for the coronavirus.

Both individuals are currently asymptomatic, in quarantine, and under the care of the team's physician.

The team now plans on testing a small group of coaches and staffers who had close contact with players, sources told ESPN's Ramona Shelburne.

Center JaVale McGee tested negative, sources told Yahoo Sports' Chris Haynes. McGee has asthma and suffered from pneumonia last season.

Fourteen Lakers players were originally tested Wednesday, according to Brad Turner of The Los Angeles Times.

Los Angeles' last game before the NBA suspended play was against the Brooklyn Nets on March 10. The Nets announced Tuesday that four players - including superstar Kevin Durant - tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The Lakers were among four NBA franchises to confirm at least one case of the coronavirus on Thursday.

In a letter to U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom projected that roughly 56% of the state's population - 25.5 million people - will be infected with the virus over an eight-week period.
