Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid will undergo surgery Friday in New York to repair a torn radial collateral ligament in his left hand, the team announced, according to Gary Washburn of The Boston Globe.

He will be re-evaluated in one-to-two weeks.

The 25-year-old visibly dislocated his ring finger against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Monday and went to the locker room temporarily before returning to finish the contest.

Embiid said postgame he felt he needed to play through the pain in order to help the 76ers snap a four-game skid but conceded it hampered his performance.

"It was pretty bad," he said Monday. "I basically could only play with one hand. It was really bad. But in the midst of the losing streak, I just wanted to make sure that I do everything possible to get us a win, and I was glad to get us a win.

"The consequences, you assume them later, but as the leader, I wanted to go out and show your teammates that you want to win, and you're going to do whatever possible to do so."

Embiid has already been ruled out for Thursday's key matchup against the Boston Celtics, and Philadelphia head coach Brett Brown admitted the Cameroonian's absence will force the 76ers to drastically overhaul their defensive schemes.

"I'm putting a blowtorch - a bullet, many bullets - into what we used to do," he said Thursday, according to The Athletic's Jay King. "Really. Like, it doesn’t fit. And so shame on me to try to make it fit. We don't have Joel Embiid."
