Embiid after gutsy effort vs. Thunder: I 'could only play with 1 hand'

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid suffered a gruesome dislocated left finger during the first quarter of Monday's 120-113 win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he battled through the rest of the contest after initially exiting.

The 7-foot center said postgame that missing Thursday's clash against the Boston Celtics is a "possibility," but helping his club snap its four-game skid was worth the pain.

"It was pretty bad," Embiid told reporters, including ESPN's Tim Bontemps. "I basically could only play with one hand. It was really bad. But in the midst of the losing streak, I just wanted to make sure that I do everything possible to get us a win, and I was glad to get us a win.

"The consequences, you assume them later, but as the leader, I wanted to go out and show your teammates that you want to win, and you're going to do whatever possible to do so."

Embiid stuffed the box score with 18 points, nine boards, and eight dimes over 32 minutes of play. However, the injury affected the finer details of his game.

For instance, the two-time All-Star said he couldn't secure a rebound with both hands, allowing counterpart big man Steven Adams to capitalize with a game-high nine offensive boards and 15 total rebounds.

Embiid's gutsy effort wasn't lost on 76ers head coach Brett Brown.

"For him to go back in and come back out and play, I was shocked (he) was able to come back out and play," Brown said. "That is a tough return to the court. That is a competitive statement. I appreciate him. I respect that."
