David Ortiz appears to be enjoying life at home.

The retired Boston Red Sox legend took to social media on Monday for the first time since he was shot last month while in the Dominican Republic. In an Instagram post, Ortiz posted some pictures of food along with a message expressing his thanks and happiness.

"Being at home and look at my family celebrating that I'm here safe is priceless," Ortiz wrote. "Thank(s) for all the prayers. Too bad l can't crush food yet!"

Ortiz was released from Massachusetts General Hospital on Saturday, nearly two months after he was shot in an incident that Dominican police believe was a case of mistaken identity. He underwent three surgeries and is now being treated at home.

The 43-year-old released a separate statement to the media on Monday, as obtained by Justin Dougherty of WHDH Boston.

Ortiz thanked the medical teams that treated him in both Santo Domingo and Boston - he called them "some of the best teammates I have ever had" - as well as the entire Red Sox organization for its help in transporting him to Boston in the aftermath of the shooting.

"My deep appreciation goes to John and Linda Henry, Tom Werner, Sam Kennedy, and the entire Red Sox organization for providing the Red Sox plane that took me back to Boston from Santo Domingo and their continuing assistance to me and my family," Ortiz said.

He went on to ask for privacy as he continues his recovery.

"I am feeling good, but know I need to do my rehab just like I did when I was recovering from injuries playing baseball," he added.

"Big Papi will be back soon."
