Report: Brewers among teams interested in Syndergaard

Zack Wheeler might not be the only New York Mets starter on the move this month.

Star right-hander Noah Syndergaard is drawing trade interest from multiple teams, including the Milwaukee Brewers, sources told Jon Morosi of MLB.com.

However, prying Syndergaard out of Flushing won't be an easy feat for any potential suitor. The Mets have set a high price tag, Morosi reports, and would be more than happy to hang on to him if their demands are not met.

Syndergaard, 26, has struggled at times this season, posting a 4.68 ERA, 3.98 FIP, and 1.28 WHIP while seeing his strikeout numbers dip (a career-worst 8.6 per nine innings). However, he does own a shutout this year and has shown flashes of his former All-Star self.

Unlike his rotation-mate Zack Wheeler, who is likely to be traded ahead of the deadline as a pending free agent, Syndergaard would come with two years of team control. He's earning just $6 million this year, and as a Super Two player won't reach free agency until after the 2021 campaign.

Milwaukee enters the second half of the season just a half-game back of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central. Despite boasting one All-Star starter in Brandon Woodruff, the rotation's production sits among the middle of the pack. Adding a proven starter like Syndergaard could provide a big boost for a team with World Series aspirations.

In addition to chasing Syndergaard, the Brewers are also showing some interest in Wheeler, according to Morosi. They have previously been linked with San Francisco Giants ace Madison Bumgarner.
