Report: Mavs, Lakers, Clippers among suitors for Beverley
Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley, who's set for unrestricted free agency, is seeking a three-year deal worth $40 million or more, sources told ESPN's Tim MacMahon.
The Clippers are interested in re-signing Beverley, while the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, and Chicago Bulls are among the other suitors, MacMahon added.
Beverley's agent, Bill Duffy, also represents reigning Rookie of the Year Luka Doncic and is reportedly intrigued about pairing his clients together in Dallas.
Beverley averaged 7.6 points, five boards, and 3.8 assists per contest across 78 appearances last season. The 30-year-old is a defensive pest who often gets into the grill of opposing players.
During the Clippers' first-round series against the Golden State Warriors, Beverley's antics appeared to get under the skin of Kevin Durant while also drawing respect from the All-Star forward.
"He's a Chicago kid, man, grew up and raised in the Chicago area, so those dudes played with a different type of grit, so I can appreciate that about Pat," Durant said of Beverley after Game 1, according to ESPN's Nick Friedell.
"And we know what he's gonna bring to the table - just physicality, mucking up the game a little bit with his physicality, his talking, just everything - that's what he brings to each team he plays on. That's his identity, and they support him with the Clippers."
The Clippers have the cap space to retain Beverley, but are likely prioritizing their financial flexibility in hopes of inking star free agents such as Kawhi Leonard, Jimmy Butler, and Kevin Durant. Meanwhile, Dallas appears to be searching for a backcourt mate for Doncic and has reportedly looked into signing Kemba Walker.
