The Atlanta Braves and outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. have agreed to an eight-year, $100-million contract extension that also includes club options for the 2027 and 2028 seasons, the team announced Tuesday.

The extension includes a $10-million buyout for the two option years, which are both worth $17 million, according to ESPN's Jeff Passan.

The deal begins this season and is the largest in history for a player with as little MLB service time as Acuna had accrued at the time of the signing (165 days).

The contract is also the second largest in Braves history, only trailing the eight-year, $135-million deal signed by Freddie Freeman in 2014.

Acuna, 21, was named the 2018 National League Rookie of the Year after hitting .293/.366/.552 with 26 home runs, 64 RBIs, and 16 steals in 111 games. He's 3-for-14 with a home run and two runs scored through four games in 2019.

Atlanta originally signed Acuna as a 16-year-old international free agent. He was among MLB's top prospects heading into 2018 and now joins a growing list of players who've signed lucrative long-term extensions around the league in recent months.
