UCF's Milton suffered nerve damage in leg, needs reconstructive surgery

UCF quarterback McKenzie Milton's parents addressed the gruesome leg injury he suffered in the second quarter of Friday's 38-10 win over South Florida.

According to a statement from his parents shared by the school Tuesday, Milton's nerve is damaged but intact and blood flow had been restored in his right leg. He will need reconstructive surgery at a later date.

"McKenzie is in good spirits and has a very positive attitude," the statement read. "He looks forward to cheering on his teammates in their quest for another conference championship this Saturday."

Milton, a junior, had completed 59.2 percent of 289 passes this season for 2,663 yards and 25 touchdowns with six interceptions. He added 307 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground.

Darriel Mack Jr. replaced Milton for the remainder of Friday's game. He completed 5 of 14 passes for 81 yards without a touchdown or interception.

UCF will host Memphis on Saturday in the American Championship Game.
