Mets' Frazier admits he fooled umpires with diving catch
Todd Frazier saved his best acting performance for Hollywood.
The New York Mets third baseman admitted Wednesday that he pulled a fast one on umpires during a diving catch Monday against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
During the second inning of a contest between the two clubs, Frazier dove into the stands down the third-base line for what appeared to be a marvelous grab.
It was all a sham, however, as was first revealed by Steve Gelbs of SportsNet New York.

When asked if he had fooled the umpires on Wednesday, Frazier said he did indeed grab a rubber ball that was already in the stands after losing the real one.
"It is Hollywood," Frazier said, according to ESPN. "Sometimes you've got to act out a little bit."
Frazier explained that at first he thought he grabbed the real one, but after realizing it wasn't the same ball he decided to sell the fake one to the umps. His plan worked, as Dodgers hitter Alex Verdugo was ruled out on the play.
"I was trying to get out of there as quick as possible," Frazier said. "I saw someone pointing at the right ball and I was like, 'All right, I'm just going to have to play this off.' I got in the dugout and was telling people I was flabbergasted that I even got away with it."
