What an evening in the nation's capital.

This year's Home Run Derby will be remembered for a long time to come as one of the most exhilarating and competitive to ever be contested - with a cinematic ending that left hearts pounding across the nation.

Here's a look back at the five must-see moments from this year's Home Run Derby.

Baez goes loooooooong

Javier Baez's evening was a short one, but he left a big impression on the crowd. His mammoth 479-foot bomb was the longest of the night.

Alex Bregman nearly caught up to Kyle Schwarber in the first round, and his furious pursuit of the upset got our pulse racing. But he just didn't have enough as a final fly ball before the buzzer went off the wall and allowed Schwarber to narrowly escape.

There's just something about Schwarber when the lights are at their brightest.

He faced stiff competition in the second round from Rhys Hoskins, who set the bar high with 20 bombs. But Schwarber was up to the task, and unleashed a barrage of homers in the final seconds that finished with an epic buzzer-beating homer to reach the final round.

Nine homers in 47 seconds

Bryce Harper was done. Nationals Park was quiet. The hometown hero needed a second timeout, clearly gassed, and Schwarber was ready to hoist the trophy.

Then it began. Again and again, right down to the buzzer, Harper went off, hitting nine home runs in 47 seconds. Suddenly we were all tied up thanks to a moment that will live forever in Derby lore.

The clincher

Just a few pitches into his 30-second bonus round, Harper ended things in style, punctuating his Derby-winning blast with a bat flip for the ages.

Washington, D.C. may be home to the Stanley Cup champions, but after Monday night there is no more doubt who runs this District. It's Bryce Harper's town.
