Alex Cora surprised Hanley Ramirez hasn't signed yet

It's been more than two weeks since Hanley Ramirez became a free agent and he remains unsigned even though teams can sign him for the league's minimum salary.

Ramirez's former manager, Alex Cora, is surprised no team has decided to take a chance on the three-time All-Star, who was released by the Red Sox at the end of May.

"I mean, I’ve got my job here, I’m the manager of the Red Sox, so I can’t, like, relate to the other GMs or the managers," Cora said, according to Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald. "It’s the nature of the game. There’s a lot of guys that, last year they played and they’re not playing this year or they’re in Triple A. So, I don’t know. I don’t know what to think.

"Like I said, he’s healthy and willing to work with a good attitude. I thought it was going to happen earlier, but now, it’s a little bit of a surprise. But it’s just the way it is."

Interest in Ramirez has been pretty bare, too. A report from The Boston Globe's Nick Cafardo surfaced on June 3 which claimed multiple teams were interested in his services. The Orioles were rumored to be among them, according to sources of The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, but that's been about it.

The 34-year-old Ramirez was hitting .254/.313/.395 with 29 RBIs before his release, but struggled in May, hitting .163/.200/.300. He was 0 for his last 20 at the dish before the Red Sox let him go.
