Schroder to meet with Hawks' front office to discuss future

Dennis Schroder has three years left on his contract with the Hawks, but after slogging through a rebuilding season, he's uncertain about his future in Atlanta.

"I don't know what the organization has in mind, that's why I am going back in a week," the 24-year-old point guard told reporters in Germany on Monday, as translated by FIBA's David Hein. "Of course Atlanta is my city, I was drafted there, have a lot of memories, but like I said, I have to look individually what's the best for me.

"I will talk to the general manager and owner of the team and we will talk about the organization and what they want to do in the future. My agent will also be there and he will talk to them tomorrow and Wednesday to see how it continues on."

As for what his next move might be, Schroder - who's owed $46.5 million over the next three seasons - hinted at the possibility of a trade to a team with a sunnier short-term outlook.

"Of course I have my thoughts and my friends with other teams," he said. "For example, Indiana wouldn't be too bad, Milwaukee wouldn't be too bad. Those are the two teams where you can say the organization is going in the right direction.

"I will be 25 in September and of course you want to win a title some time. In my prime - 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 - I want to compete. I cannot be second to last in the Eastern Conference. That's why I will have the talks with the Atlanta Hawks."

The Hawks actually finished last in the Eastern Conference this season with a record of 24-58, so Schroder seems to be projecting some modest improvement for the team in 2018-19.
