Report: McElwain meeting with Florida officials about job status

Kim Klement / USA TODAY Sports

Jim McElwain is meeting with Florida officials Sunday to discuss his future with the program, according to Adam Rittenberg of ESPN.

Reports surfaced Saturday that the Gators were contemplating firing McElwain with cause after he failed to show evidence about his comments earlier in the week that some members of the team received death threats. McElwain wouldn't expand on the remarks about the alleged threats when pressed by the media.

Florida also suffered an embarrassing on-field defeat Saturday, falling 42-7 to Georgia. McElwain commented on his status following the contest, saying "nothing in this world surprises me."

The 55-year-old has guided the Gators to a pair of SEC title game appearances, though the team has struggled offensively and to develop quarterbacks under his watch.
