Paris Saint-Germain raised eyebrows with the signings of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for an eventual reported €400 million, prompting doubts that the side's summer spending fell within the constraints of Financial Fair Play (FFP).

European football's governing body, UEFA, has taken notice, announcing plans Friday to investigate the capital club "as part of its ongoing monitoring of clubs under Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

"The investigation will focus on the compliance of the club with the break-even requirement, particularly in light of its recent transfer activity."

UEFA's "break-even requirement" demands that money spent on transfer fees and wages be equal with revenues accrued over a calendar year as a means of "improving the overall financial health of European club football." PSG is set to significantly alter its bank balance with the pair of blockbuster signings and the wages paid to Dani Alves, raising questions about whether it's meeting that requirement.

Investigators "will regularly meet in order to carefully evaluate all documentation pertaining to this case" over the coming months, the statement added.

Clubs found guilty of violating FFP are susceptible to fines, and in some cases, even banishment from continental competitions.
