Major League Baseball and its Players Association are stepping up to the plate in a big way for the city of Houston.

It was announced Monday that the league and union will jointly donate $1 million to relief efforts in Houston and southeast Texas following the damage and flooding caused in the region by Tropical Storm Harvey.

According to the official joint release, donations will be made to the American Red Cross, as well as other relief organizations chosen by the PA.

Support for the Houston region has poured in throughout the baseball world as the extent of the damage has become clear. Earlier in the day St. Louis Cardinals infielder Matt Carpenter pledged to donate $10,000 to efforts for every home run he hits during the rest of this season.

Tropical Storm Harvey's damage forced the Astros to move this week's three-game home series against the Texas Rangers - scheduled to begin Tuesday night - from Minute Maid Park to the neutral site of Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla.
