The Patrick Mahomes hype train is gaining steam in Kansas City.

The flashy rookie quarterback has impressed during the preseason. In his latest outing for the Chiefs, he went 10-for-14 passing for 88 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-12 win over the Cincinnati Bengals. He's completed 73 percent of his passes in the preseason and three touchdowns against zero interceptions.

Nonetheless, Alex Smith need not worry. The starting quarterback's job isn't in jeopardy.

"It's Alex's job. There's no gray area," Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Monday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

The Chiefs traded their first-round draft pick, their 2018 first-round pick, and a 2017 third-rounder in order to move up to No. 10 to select their quarterback of the future.

The future appears still a little ways off for Mahomes as Reid intends to keep Smith as his conductor entering the 2017 season.
