Could the Montreal Impact lose star winger Ignacio Piatti at the end of the year?

That's what the 32-year-old Argentine hinted towards following a two-goal performance in a midweek 3-0 win over the Chicago Fire. Piatti, who is approaching the end of his current deal with the club, speculated to the crowd in French that the last 10 matches of the 2017 MLS season could be it for him.

Head coach Mauro Biello confirmed the club is currently negotiating with Piatti, but with a deal not yet reached, Piatti himself made sure to clarify the intent behind his post-match message.

"I want to continue doing on the field the things that I do, and after that, it's not me who decides, it's the team, it's the president," Piatti said of his comments, as quoted by MLSsoccer.com

"I just said it because maybe that's it, my last 10 games here, my last season, and I hope to go to the playoffs to finish well. But I'm happy with the whole team. We've won three games in a row and we have to continue like that."

However, Piatti was also quoted by reporters with a bit more finality to his four-year tenure in Canada.

"I didn’t find the solution to stay here and that’s it," he said of his contract, as quoted by SoccerByIves. "I do everything on the field but it's the club that decides. I have been here for three years after that it’s not me but I'm happy with the whole team and I want to continue this year to win the (MLS Cup) and leave well."

Whatever is decided, Montreal will certainly feel his presence, or absence, on the field. Piatti has 42 goals in 82 regular season appearances in the last four seasons, along with 19 assists, making him Montreal's attacking linchpin.
