Juventus unveiled the signing of Blaise Matuidi on Friday after the Frenchman was purchased from Paris Saint-Germain for an initial €20 million that could reach €30 million after add-ons.

The 30-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Serie A champion, and could be in contention for Saturday's season opener against Cagliari.

Matuidi becomes the 10th arrival at the Turin giant this summer, following a contingent highlighted by Federico Bernardeschi, Douglas Costa, and Wojciech Szczesny.

Matuidi's cost has been widely heralded by fans, with the midfielder proving a huge upgrade on Mario Lemina, the bit-part player who's left for Southampton, and lessening an over-reliance on Sami Khedira in the middle of the park. The supporters needed appeasing as well, after key senior figures Dani Alves and, most critically, Leonardo Bonucci left earlier this summer.

His physicality and work-rate is hoped to tend to a side which appears to be ailing after a 2-0 friendly defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, and Sunday's 3-2 Supercoppa loss to Lazio in Rome's Stadio Olimpico. Still, the Old Lady is a favourite to collect her seventh straight Serie A title by the end of May, despite increased competition anticipated from a rejuvenated AC Milan, tireless Napoli, and Roma, which is executing a tweaked recruitment policy orchestrated by new sporting director Monchi.
