Murgia's late heroics hand Lazio dramatic cup win over Juventus

Juventus' late surge from a 2-0 deficit proved futile in the end, as Alessandro Murgia's 93rd-minute side-footer gave Lazio a dramatic 3-2 victory over the reigning Italian champion Sunday.

Paulo Dybala's two goals after the 85th minute revived Juventus' hopes in a match Lazio had dominated, but local youth product Murgia became a hometown hero with a close-range finish in stoppage time.

It's the fourth time the Biancocelesti have won the Supercoppa, while Juventus has now lost three of the past four editions.

Playing in familiar confines at the Stadio Olimpico, Lazio looked the more comfortable of the two teams from the outset. Ciro Immobile scored twice - the first from the penalty spot and the second off a looping header - to send the partisan supporters into a frenzy.

Dybala, however, still had something to say about the result. Wearing the famous No. 10 for the first time, the tricky Argentine curved in an inch-perfect free-kick to bring Juventus within one. Dybala then dispatched a clean spot-kick in the 91st minute to level matters.

It was a gut punch to the home side, which hadn't won any of its past 14 fixtures against the Old Lady.

But 21-year-old substitute Murgia, who replaced the excellent Lucas Leiva, brought the fans to their feet once again.

Lazio opens the Serie A campaign next weekend against newly promoted SPAL.
