Lulay leads Lions over Bombers in high-scoring affair

Travis Lulay sure looks comfortable leading the BC Lions offence.

Starting for the injured Jonathan Jennings, Lulay topped the 400-yard mark for the second straight game, leading the Lions to a 45-42 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Friday night.

Lulay, who had a CFL "off the bench" record 436 passing yards last week in relief of Jennings, passed for 404 yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions as BC overcame a 15-point deficit entering the fourth quarter against Winnipeg. He also added a 14-yard touchdown run in that decisive frame.

The win was the fourth straight for the Lions, who improved to 4-1 on the year after a season-opening loss to the Edmonton Eskimos, while the Blue Bombers fell to 2-2.

Bryan Burnham proved to be Lulay's favourite target on the night, hauling in six receptions for a game-high 149 yards, while Emmanuel Arceneaux added five catches for 50 yards with a pair of TDs.

Matt Nichols was 28-of-36 for 254 yards with three touchdowns and an interception for Winnipeg while also scoring a rushing touchdown. Darvin Adams scored a pair of receiving touchdowns, while Andrew Harris pulled in 12 catches for 85 yards but had just six rushing attempts.

Next up the Lions will try to keep their win streak going as they look to avenge their only loss of the season with a trip to Edmonton on Friday night. For their part, the Bombers will attempt to get one back in the win column when they play host to the Montreal Alouettes on Thursday.
