Report: Manchester United still £9M below Inter's asking price for Perisic

Manchester United's measured increases for each of its three unsatisfactory bids for Ivan Perisic are frustrating Inter Milan, with the Premier League club still falling £9 million short of the winger's valuation.

United lodged spurned offers of around €30 million (£26.7 million) and then €32 million (£28.5 million) for the Croatian, according to The Telegraph's James Ducker, and the latest approach of approximately €44.8 million (£40 million) still falls well below what Inter is looking for.

The price tag on Perisic's head is apparently nearer to €55 million (£49 million), despite United allegedly believing it could hold Inter ransom as it needs to break even to satisfy UEFA's Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules.

Jose Mourinho's squad is currently undergoing pre-season preparations in Los Angeles before embarking on a U.S. tour of five matches across four different states. A notable absentee, however, is chief executive Ed Woodward, who's stayed in London until early next week in a bid to accelerate the Perisic negotiations. If nothing materialises within the upcoming seven days, the 28-year-old will board the plane heading to China for Inter's respective pre-season excursion.

Contrary to the supposed FFP restraints, Inter will not easily fold despite the huge amounts on offer. New manager Luciano Spalletti intends to sit down with Perisic to try and persuade him to stay at the club.

But the pay packet on offer at United should be much larger than what's being tabled at the San Siro, and there's the additional pluses of Champions League football and playing under the highly decorated Mourinho in Stretford.

Space is being freed up regardless of Perisic's touted switch to Manchester. Adnan Januzaj, once the natural heir of Ryan Giggs but now far from the first-team picture at Old Trafford, is believed to be nearing a £9.8-million transfer to Real Sociedad.

United recouping something close to what's been spent this summer seems a rank impossibility after stumping up potentially more than £120 million on Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof already.

Tottenham Hotspur's Eric Dier could also join the expensively assembled throng at United. The defender-cum-midfielder is a boyhood fan of the Red Devils, and the Guardian's Jamie Jackson and David Hynter report United will increase efforts to land the £50-million-rated England regular.
