U.S. men's national team midfielder Danny Williams is heading to the Premier League as he joins Huddersfield Town on a free transfer. The 28-year-old last played with Reading, the team that Huddersfield defeated to secure promotion into the top flight this season.

Williams joins the Terriers on a two-year deal after he became a free agent on June 30, on the same day the club also signed Tom Ince and Kasey Palmer.

"As our fans will have seen during the play-off final, Danny brings a lot of quality to any team he plays for," head coach David Wagner said in a club-issued statement. "His way of playing - his aggressiveness, tenacity, and athleticism - fits our 'Terriers identity' perfectly.

"It is not usual that a player of Danny's ability is available on a free transfer, so there was understandably a lot of interest from clubs.

"When we spoke, it was clear that he wants to prove himself at the highest level in England and that he had a real desire to come and play for Huddersfield Town. He is a terrific character and will totally fit in with our group."

Williams has made 22 appearances with the U.S. national team, scoring two goals. He has also played for 1899 Hoffenheim and SC Freiburg in Germany.
