Swansea beats competition to Tammy Abraham loan deal

One of the most sought-after youngsters in English football, Tammy Abraham, will spend next season on loan at Swansea City.

The 19-year-old Chelsea striker was also courted by Premier League newcomers Newcastle United and Brighton & Hove Albion following a breakout 2016-17 term for Championship struggler Bristol City.

Abraham was unveiled at Swansea on Tuesday after he signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea.

"I'm really excited," said Abraham. "I enjoyed my time at Bristol City last season, playing regular first-team football and scoring goals. Hopefully I can do the same at Swansea.

"I watched Swansea a lot last season when they played Chelsea and on TV. I know it was a difficult season for them at times, but you could see that they always try and play nice football."

Abraham fired 23 goals for the Robins in the last campaign - a record high for a teenager in the 20-year Championship era - and will now link up with his new teammates on Swansea's preseason tour of America after helping England to the semi-finals of the European Under-21 Championship.

He'll compete with Fernando Llorente, Jordan Ayew, and Borja Baston for minutes in Paul Clement's setup as he looks to reach the potential he displayed at Bristol City as well as during Chelsea's victorious FA Youth Cup runs of 2014-15 and 2015-16.
