Robles inks new deal with Red Bulls
The New York Red Bulls will be in safe hands for a while longer yet as the club announced Wednesday it has signed a new multi-year contract with goalkeeper Luis Robles, though specific terms were not disclosed.
"We are pleased to reach new terms with Luis," Red Bulls Sporting Director Denis Hamlett said in a club-issued statement. "Luis has been an important part of our club on and off the field, and we look forward to continued success with him as our goalkeeper."
The 33-year-old has played an instrumental part in Jesse Marsch's side since joining the team out of German outfit Karlsruher near the tail end of the 2012 season, but earned his starting spot immediately and has not conceded it in the years that followed.
With 179 total appearances for the Red Bulls, Robles is the franchise leader in shutouts (43), goals-against average (1.30), wins (73), league fixtures played (157), and minutes played (14,130).
He was also named MLS Goalkeeper of the Year in 2015.
