Shaw splitting time between Brewers, visiting baby in hospital

Travis Shaw's first season in Milwaukee has been remarkable, but his baseball production is small in comparison to what he's accomplished off the field.

Shaw has spent the majority of his time away from the ballpark with his wife, Lindy, and newborn daughter, Ryann, at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, reports MLB.com's Adam McCalvy.

Ryann was born earlier in June with a congenital heart defect, and has already undergone multiple open-heart surgeries.

After learning of his daughter's illness, the 27-year-old Shaw has been spending his mornings at the hospital before playing at Miller Park, then returning to the hospital at night before going to bed.

"(The ballpark) is kind of the getaway for a few hours," Shaw explained to McCalvy. "Like I've said, sometimes I don't know how I'm doing it or what I'm thinking about, but you just keep riding the wave."

While he admitted road trips were going to be "hard," he's somehow remained focused on baseball, and is one of the best players (.290/.344/.528, 13 HR, 48 RBI) on a Brewers club that's leading the National League Central.

Shaw's dedication to both family and team was so phenomenal his teammate Chase Anderson was recently brought to tears, according to McCalvy.

"I get the chills talking about it. I can't even imagine what he's going through right now," Anderson said. "But then he goes out on the baseball field and (takes) all of his anger out on the baseball, which is impressive."
