Wolfsburg lures Brazilian William to Lower Saxony
Hoping to bolster an area of concern, Bundesliga struggler Wolfsburg has signed right-back William from Brazilian outfit Internacional.
Die Wolfe announced the news with a statement on its website Thursday, adding that the 22-year-old Olympic gold medalist has signed a five-year deal through 2022.
"I am looking forward to Wolfsburg. VfL is a very well-known club in Brazil. Many great players, such as Grafite, Josue, Diego, or Naldo were successful there. My top priority now is to get to know everything as quickly as possible and get integrated into the team," William said.

Last season, Wolfsburg struggled with the right-back position as Jakub Blaszczykowski, Christian Trasch, and Sebastian Jung platooned for the side that had three different managers during the season. Blaszczykowski's form has prompted talk of a summer exit, and a report out of his homeland pegs him with a move to MLS' Chicago Fire.
Whether or not William is set to take the first-choice right-back duties, the club appears more than pleased with its latest addition.
"We have been intensively scouting William for quite some time. He is a young player with a great deal of potential for development - for which reason we are very happy to have been able to bind him to VfL for the long term," club sporting director Olaf Rebbe said.
