Tammy Abraham is poised to continue his footballing education under Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United after a breakout year on loan at underwhelming Championship outfit Bristol City, according to The Telegraph's Luke Edwards.

The Chelsea striker, 19, is reportedly set for a long-term contract in London before he's allowed to leave for Newcastle on another loan. During his stay at Ashton Gate, Abraham set a record for the most goals scored in one season by a teenager across the 20-year Championship era, seamlessly adjusting to life after starring in the Blues' victorious FA Youth Cup runs of 2014-15 and 2015-16.

Chelsea is hopeful that Abraham will develop further with big-game experience in the Magpies' Premier League return, but there's a chance he could find minutes more difficult to come by in a squad which already has Dwight Gayle, Aleksandar Mitrovic, Daryl Murphy, Ayoze Perez, and academy product Adam Armstrong at its disposal up top.

Abraham sought assurances from Benitez that he'd get regular first-team football last week, reports Edwards, as he weighed up another offer from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Abraham then told Newcastle he was keen on representing it during the 2017-18 campaign, leaving managing director Lee Charnley to negotiate with Chelsea over a loan fee and what percentage of the marksman's wages will be covered by the Tyneside lot.

Christian Atsu - another former Chelsea youngster - has already moved permanently to St James' Park this summer, and Benitez is understood to be eyeing a loan approach for Arsenal defender Calum Chambers and free nab of ex-Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero.
