Newcastle completes Atsu capture from Chelsea
Newcastle United confirmed the signing of Christian Atsu from Chelsea on Wednesday.
The Ghanaian international, 25, penned a four-year contract after the Magpies exercised an option to turn his loan deal into a permanent stay. The transfer fee is reportedly £6.2 million, according to Sky Sports.
The switch is subject to his successful reapplication for a work permit, but there should be no issues there, given Ghana's standing of 45th in the FIFA World Rankings and the fact Atsu made 32 appearances en route to Newcastle's Championship title in 2016-17.
"We are happy to sign a good player," manager Rafa Benitez said. "He's shown us that he's a good professional and someone who is very keen to learn and improve.
"Christian has been a key part of our promotion campaign and he wants to help us to build something for the future."
Atsu shifted to Chelsea in 2013, and will appreciate being on stable footing following five loan spells in four seasons.
