Report: Pereira set for United chance after impressing on loan

Andreas Pereira could be the next player to graduate into Manchester United's senior setup after an impressive sojourn with La Liga cellar-dweller Granada, reports ESPN FC's Rob Dawson.

The 21-year-old midfielder was a rare positive in a campaign so disastrous that the Andalusian outfit called in ex-Arsenal captain Tony Adams to steady the ship.

Despite the imperfect conditions, Pereira still fashioned five goals and three assists in his loan spell, catching the eye of the manager of his parent club, Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese is expected to spend heavily once again this summer after procuring titles in the League Cup and Europa League, but will offer Pereira the opportunity to show what he can do. The Belgium-born Brazil Under-23 international will apparently train with the first-team squad when it reconvenes ahead of the 2017-18 campaign, and is then set to travel on the preseason tour of the United States.

That would see Pereira potentially involved in matches against Major League Soccer sides LA Galaxy and Real Salt Lake, before taking on European rivals Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Barcelona. When that audition is complete, Mourinho is expected to make a decision on Pereira's future at Old Trafford.

Pereira joined United from PSV Eindhoven in 2011, and was handed his debut at the club by Louis van Gaal in 2014. He last appeared competitively for United in February 2016 as a substitute in a 5-1 Europa League bashing of FC Midtjylland.
