Watch: Harper crushed 2 massive HRs off Strickland in last ABs before brawl

Brett Davis / USA TODAY Sports

The bad blood between Hunter Strickland and Bryce Harper may have been brewing for nearly three years now.

Strickland, who drilled Harper with a 98-mph fastball Monday which led to punches being thrown and both dugouts immediately clearing, may have had the 2014 NLDS on his mind.

In that series, Harper struck early in Game 1 with a mammoth blast to right field off Strickland. Three games later, the two squared off again, and Harper one-upped his last performance, admiring his second home run off Strickland in the series as it landed in McCovey Cove. The second long ball marked the last time the two players faced each other in an at-bat before Monday's encounter.

After the pair of home runs, Strickland mentioned he wasn't planning on dwelling on Harper's blasts.

"You've got to forget it," Strickland told the San Francisco Chronicle at the time. "You've got to have a short memory and go for it - because this isn't about me and my stats. This is about the team and moving forward."
