Marlins' minor-league team rebranded the 'Jumbo Shrimp'
The Jacksonville Suns, the Miami Marlins' Double-A affiliate, transformed themselves Tuesday by changing the franchise's name.

Jacksonville has been known as the Suns since 1962, but owner Ken Babby, who purchased the team two years ago, decided it was time for something new.
"This is a high-energy, impactful, bold move," Babby said Tuesday, according to Gene Frenette of The Florida Times-Union. "There’s certainly risk that goes along with it. There’ll be feedback and, I’m sure, some resistance. We’ve been holding on to this for a while and look forward to sharing it with the community. The tradition of the Jacksonville Suns is entrenched in Northeast Florida. It’s been known and loved. The passion for minor league baseball in Jacksonville doesn’t change (with a new team name). It’s just a new chapter in its evolution.”
Babby was also responsible for changing the name of the Akron Aeros to the Rubberducks prior to the 2014 season after purchasing the team. After the name change, the Rubberducks saw a 27-percent spike in attendance over a three-year period.
