Florida quarterback Luke Del Rio is expected to miss two-to-four weeks with a sprained MCL, according to multiple reports.

Del Rio took a low hit Saturday against North Texas in the Gators 32-0 victory, one that infuriated head coach Jim McElwain.

"I care about these kids. They're mine. I see something like that, it ain't right," McElwain said after the game.

The news is tough for the Gators heading into a matchup with rival Tennessee on Saturday, but it's better than initially expected. Del Rio did not incur any ligament damage or broken bones, and the sophomore sent an encouraging message out to his teammates and coach early Sunday morning via Instagram:

With Del Rio expected to miss some time, the Gators turn to Austin Appleby to take over under center. Appleby, a Purdue transfer, entered the game in relief on Saturday and completed 2-of-5 passes for 30 yards.

''It breaks my heart that it had to come by an injury, and again I'm really hopeful that he'll be healthy and back with us as soon as possible, but I'm ready to roll. We've got a job to do," said Appleby. "It's just going to be another week of practice and get ready to play a game. We've got an unbelievable opportunity to go play in prime time in front of a great stadium, in front of a good team and we'll see where we're at. We're excited about it for sure.''

Florida has owned the Vols in recent years, taking the last 11 contests.
