Penn State's Christian Hackenberg suffers shoulder injury in bowl game loss

Trevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY Sports

Christian Hackenberg's college career might have come to a premature end.

The Penn State quarterback went to the locker room in the second quarter of Saturday's TaxSlayer Bowl against Georgia after suffering a shoulder injury.

Hackenberg underwent X-rays on his throwing shoulder and the team later announced that he was ruled out for the game.

The junior, who might apply for early entry into the 2016 NFL Draft, fell hard on his right shoulder at the end of a run earlier in the game and was favoring the shoulder after the hit.

He stayed in the game and completed 3-of-4 passes, but went to the locker room shortly after, making way for backup Trace McSorley.

Hackenberg rejoined his teammates on the sidelines for the second half, donning street clothes.
