Pittsburgh's Pat Narduzzi on training camp: We've gotten '50 percent' better
Pittsburgh coach Pat Narduzzi believes his team has improved considerably in the first 19 days of training camp - but not as much as he originally hoped.
Prior to camp, Narduzzi said he'd like to see his Panthers squad get 3 percent better with every practice, but conceded Thursday that they've narrowly missed that goal.
"Maybe 50 percent," he said of how much his team has improved, according to Sam Werner of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "I'm not sure we got all 57 percent. We'll find out as we go. You'd like to get that 3 percent, but I don't think you got it every day. I truly don't. I think it's tapered off."
Pittsburgh practiced indoors Thursday morning in the final training camp practice open to the media. The Panthers will have a scrimmage at Heinz Field on Friday as they begin final preparations for the season opener against Youngstown State on Sept. 5.
"I think you've got camp legs right now, and some guys are mentally and physically like, 'Is this almost over?'" Narduzzi said of the desire for a change of scenery. "I think it happens everywhere I've been. We'll find out if that's really who they are. We're going to find out Sept. 5."
