San Diego State coach: Recruit 'won't answer his phone, won't call us back'

One of the Aztecs most highly touted recruits has gone silent, as San Diego State head coach Rocky Long can't get in touch with four-star wide receiver Desean Holmes.

"We cannot find him," Long said at Mountain West media days Tuesday, according to San Diego Union-Tribune's Tod Leonard.

"The kid won't answer his phone, won't call us back. We don't know where he is."

Staff have not heard from the California native in three weeks, when Long said they called Holmes to talk about completion of a summer school class that would make him eligible for action in September.

After that, Holmes and his foster family have not returned San Diego State's phone calls, and his social worker had not been in touch with Holmes directly.

While the wide receiver has been retweeting, he has not sent a tweet of his own since July 25.

The door is still open for Holmes to join the team when the players report on Aug. 5.

"It could all change overnight," Long said.
